Was the Destruction of the Saraki Family House Politics Taken Too Far?
There were mixed reactions in Kwara state some days ago after the Kwara state government carried out the demolition of a property which was the family home of the former Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
Saraki fell out with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after his emergence as Senate President against the wishes of his party.
All efforts to remove him as senate president failed but he lost his return bid to the senate. Since all went according to the desire of his former party the APC, the recent action of the state government in demolishing the family home of Dr Bukola Saraki has been viewed as politics taken too far.
They claimed that the Saraki family did not pay for the land or acquire the necessary papers before allocating the land.
In protest against the action of the state government the Saraki family has taken the matter to court but wondered why the state government took the action when the matter was still in court.
Sources also claim that a sister of Dr Bukola Saraki who is currently a member of President Buhari’s team Gbemi Saraki is not happy with the governor of Kwara state for the demolition of their family house.
Some people see the move as political because there are fears of a Saraki resurgence in Kwara state.
